obviously you and i dont get along. I dont care if i stand alone here but i am going to stand strong to my opinion. I dont care what your children do and you shouldnt care what my siblings do as long as this is all within reason. Lets leave it at that.

What about bikes?
What about electric / gas scooters?
What about rollerblades and skateboards?

My point is where do you stop. I have a 9 y/o son and a 7 y/o daughter both started riding at 5 on a ATC 70 . Now my son is on an XR-70 while my daughter went form a 50cc to an LT80 this year as she outgrew the 50. Now am I a bad parent for letting my kids ride according to you mud yes, but like juicemans kids mine wear full gear only ride with us etc. Do I worry about my kids getting hurt yes of course I do but I am not going to raise them in a bubble and not let them enojy the things I enjoyed growing-up.

While I do understand where you are coming form Mud where to you draw the line as my kids have taken more spills, been hurt and injured more on their bikes, scooters etc. so do we wait until they are 12 to get them a bike as well?

Anyway, enough on this issue as you could debate both sides all day long and in the end it comes down to responsibility and choice.

I didnt draw the lines.

This is just discussion. Its not a parenting test.

The delima is simply that I see two sides to the issue

1) if the child doesnt get seriously hurt - then its not a problem
2) if the child does get seriously hurt - then you are the problem bringing all this legislation and restriction on the rest of us.

Now, how do you ensure you don't become part of the problem - we all agree that accidents happen.

The solution seems to be - to wait until the child meets the age requirements - and if the parent then feels the child is approprietely developed - then go for it.

So its a matter of timing - I want my child to ride now. I don't want to have to wait.

Then what is the real problem? Not getting what the parent wants when the parent wants it. So... Is that the best decision making for the safety of the child - the parents hurry to get what he wants?

If I want my 14 year old to be able to fly one of my airplanes under my direct supervision - why can't I assume responsibility for that and let her fly? Its my airplane, my responsibility and my kid. Think the FAA will go along with that?

Can we end this with one last rebuttal!! Everyone that has replied in this forum obviously has ridden with or has witnessed a child riding a quad!! We as parents are here to teach and guide them through the basics of riding, be it safety, proper gear, and the quad itself!!We all know the limitations of the quad before we even start it up! I don't know the stories of these recent fatalities, but I'm guessing improper supervision may have been a factor, but accidents do happen!!I just want whodatin the mud to maybe reflect on his own instructing abilities, and instead of criticizing us as parents who are spending quality time with our children, maybe consider offering parents and their children(6or under)a safety course to encourage the sport and the future riders of the sport!!(Like an intro to riding ,so to speak!!) By the way , just kidding about the sexuality thing!! Just adding a little humor!! All I want is my kids quad fixed!!!!!

Thanks for coming back into the fold juice -

First - I'm not allowed to teach anyone who doesnt meet the requirements set forth by state law. Its a liability issue, personal and property insurance issues and its a rule. I'm not suppose to violate the rules or I could be fired. And I can't tell other people to violate the rules or I could be fired. And I'm expected to tell people what the rules are if I see that they are in violation of rules - or I could be fired.

If I over react its because I feel like that comedian - heres your sign. You may be doing everything right. But so many are not its impossible to assume the best.

Anyways -

My daughters polaris would act that way. First it was the fuel vent line being pinched. I drilled the smallest little hole in the fuel cap and it fixed the problem.

The second simular problem was caused by a loose spark plug where - where it screwed together between the 90 degree elbow and the coil.

Take a look at those possibilities.

WOW!!! You must be really worried about getting fired from DNR. It must make you very emotional to be on the mini-quad forum and see all the "less then 12 year old" rider postings going by. If I was pinned down by so many rules and it got me worked up all the time, I'd probably find a new profession. Or, stop putting myself in a postion that forces me to watch so many law breakers...

Many years ago, I was a manager on a HelpDesk. I had 50 people reporting to me and we ran 7/24 shifts. For over 3.5 years, I kept getting hit with so much negativity. Day in and day out. One day I work up and said, "enough it enough!!!". I'm now doing a different profession and "no one" reports to me today. Today, I have one of the best jobs I ever had. What I'm trying to apply is.... If you are that scared every day, perhaps its time to find something different??? Something that will make you happy.

Something to think of....

Something told me that when the going gets tough - you'd quit.. Kind of like deleteing your posts and then running to the moderator for help to rid tthe safety discussion from your " turf" in this forum.

lts like the Bill Engvall story -

Stupid people should have to wear signs that just say, "I'm Stupid". That
way you wouldn't rely on them, would you? You wouldn't ask them
anything. It would be like, "Excuse me...oops, never mind. I didn't see
your sign."

No, fear of being fired from the DNR isn't the problem. I'm one of those people who doesn't accept failure.

Being a commercial pilot, master skydiver, stunt pilot, computer engineer and atv instructor leaves little room to be afraid.
At 200mph 5 feet off the blacktop - you do not want to be scared. That will get you dead. These little hissy fits being thrown
in these threads by you and couple others have little impact.

Some people see how well they can perform - others tend to see how much they can get away with.

I do this ATV instructor work not because of the rewards - but because it is important work that needs to be done.

I imagine you might not be able to grasp that as its not very self-satisfying if your heart isn't in it.

Heres your sign.

I'm getting the impression that you are one of those folks who love to fight with others. Loves to debate things just to get others going. You tell others (not too sure who) to "get over it", then you go "on and on" yourself. If someone turns left, you debate they should have turned right, when they turn right, you debate they should have turned left. When they no longer fight, you are still upset. You call them quiters - hoping they'll came back into the debate. If that's your style, so be it. Other's can't change you, just like you can't change a parent who's put a 4 year old on a racing quad. I belong to many other forums and mini-quad forums (where you also belong). On the other forums, you don't carry on and on. You get "right to the technical point" and have earned many people's respect. And yes, thank you for your great feedback on the proper oil to use in my AC 500i. On this specific forum, you go on and on. It makes me wonder if you are "after someone on this forum", trying to destry the participation on this forum, or simply love detabting with the many handful of folks on this forum.

whodat lives to argue stupid points of law, he lives for it. I'm sure Ia. laws are just as stupid as mn., so here it goes you have to be 16 yrs. to ride anything bigger than a 90cc quad, but there are NO restrictions on dirtbikes, therefore my kid is supposed to ride a quad that is too small for him, so maybe I'll buy him that cr500 he likes. In Ia. you can get a learners permit to ride on the road when you're 14, no cc limit. My point is that just because its the law doesn't mean it makes ANY kind of sense, so you might as well quit preaching at us, we don't care, we'll raise our kids you raise yours.
