What is the best gear ratio for LT 80 in dunes
#1
I bought my daughter a 04lt 80 also purchased, before I discovered this forum, were a dg pipe and the 20mm carbW/ K+N
my queation is this what is the best sprocket combo for climbing in the dunes also the quad is got less than ten hours on it
would it be ok to have it ported ands polished without having to go bigger on the piston and what about doing those clutch mods that i have been reading about. I just want her to be able to go where her brother goes he has an 88 lt w mods and he usally is the king of the minis in the dunes I don't care about top speed I just am getting tired of her trying to climb a hill that her brother does and she doesn't make it. This frustrates her and instead of turning around on the hill she stays on the gas and burries it we are working on the attitude
problem and burrying it on purpose. In a drag race at first bowl at sand lake OR my son will be at the top and she is only about 1/3 the way up the hill . also when they switch quads the 88 still wins by the same amount. Hopefully lt 80 will resond to my thread and by the way my daughter thinks miss moore is A#1 SUPERWOMAN. She's right!

Well, you can slightly mod the clutches and get a lot better performance especially in the sand. The little LT's engage so fast the sand pulls them down. If you like the speed of the machine and dont want to tear down the cylinder yet, then I would suggest shaving the head .020, and lightening the rear clutches to around 175 grams. You can drill 2 or 3 of the front rollers to reduce the weight and increase the shift speed a bit. These little bikes are fairly delicate on tuning and doing the clutches with all of the oil injetion and such can be a bit of a pain, but mild changes on a stock bike will yield great results. Jack can do the full meal deal for you and it will run great and haul butt, but that is a race mod and has to run on 100 octane. Just make sure whatever you do just think it all through.

I can get the lil miss up the hills
You need the motor kit. Porting and clutchs. One don't work without the other.
100 octane? not needed! My motors run approx 150 pounds compression. 92 should be sufficient. Race fuel (110) mixed with 92 is usually used to race, mostly cuz ppl just want to.
My motors are equally fun on the dunes/track/back yard.
Bubba and I have been arguing (friendly of course) about lightening rollers. I like them equal, he don't
The bore shouldn't be effected, but I'd like to replace that weisenheimer piston with a stock zuki
Thank you for the kind words about the daughter, much appreciated!

Well, it's not that I dont like them equal, when the machining tools are crued, sometimes you have to do it the best you can Jack, I do have an e-mail telling me to run 100 octane, although you knew at the time what we were doing and I'm sure it was to be on the safe side. Naturally I listen to what mr LT80 says in the end, he definitely knows best

I appologize Bubba, I didn't mean to imply you didn't know your stuff about it, I just didn't want ppl to think it was a high dollar race fuel motor only.
You race thus you use a higher octane "to be safe" most do. Whether it is an absolute need is another story

No apology ever needed from you. I owe you big time and you can talk me down anytime you see fit.I just threw in my .02, but people here need to listen to you first. You have "been there, dont that". By the way, what is the best gearing for the dunes, ours went great with a 12-27 and a 120lb daughter.
