Default Viper 90 not running right help appreciated

Just bought my lad a Viper 90, bought it second hand in the dark didn't look it over properly....
say no more lol...it doesn;t appear to have been looked after very well...
on the carb there was some sticky tape covering a small black plastic tube..it appears this "may" have been where the electronic choke was? Theres also a lead hanging loose near this...on my RXL50 this connects up to the missing part on the carb...
this leads me to my first Q..should i get the part thats missing or just block the hole up?
Second question....
we seem to be a little low on power the little 50 we bought at christmas (RXL50 04 model) seems to be a lot "snappier" could this be just wear on the engine?
Also after running thru a little track we have in the woods it seems to drop power almost completely back down to tickover despite putting throttle in?
I have noticed it smells a little warm but the loss of power seems to come when either going up steep hills or fast over bumps...even right after startup it seems to bog down after hitting some bumps (little 2 foot mounds several in a row)
I am total newbie to quads and mechanics so go easy on me but have played for last 6 months on the 50 so am not total novice to servicing them...
thanks for any help

OK eliminated overheating as i just left the quad for 2 hours then started it up and rode right over the bumps within ten seconds of starting her up and the loss of power kicked in right away, so it's not overheating...can anyone point me in the right direction?

Have tried a new plug that didn't help, will try an engine oil change later today and fit a new supressor cap...I have learnt one thing tho...don't go to buy bikes in the dark off e-bayers with no feedback

try cleaning the carb take it off pull it apart clean it out put it back make sure to blow out all the jets sounds like you have water or dirt in the carb plugging the main jet

Stripped the carb down, cleaned it out couldn't physically see any dirt in it put it all back together and I still have the stuttering problem...it will eventually get up to top speed but it's not smooth as if it's missing 2 out of every three sparks? Once at top speed it seems to smooth out and rev evenly but to be honest at that speed I can't hear much but it does feel smoother.
Anyone got any ideas at all? Seems to be getting hot and runs better when it's cooler....this stuttering problem is in addition now to the loss of power over bumps or up hills....it's now just cutting out halfway up an incline damn thing will tick over forever just seems to stutter on acceleration and then dies out to tickover after some bumps or hills?
May have to give in and take it to the dealer as I am running out of things to look at
p.s. Glassman many thanks for your answer bud very much appreciated

Does the pipe have a spark arrestor you can remove? Heard of some carbon clogged.

Have you tried putting the carb on from your other quad? Thinking they are both 16mm, but I may be wrong. Just switch jets.

ps - If switching the carb works.......while I would really recommend a better one, I've got a stocker 16mm mikuni clone that I think may work on your quad sitting in my garage. Cost you shipping if you want it. PM me and I can send pics or whatever.
