LT80 Need to Know questions
I just inherited an 87 Lt80 in very very well kept condition. I would like to do a little maintenance on it but i didnt get a manual. So i have two questions
1. How do you change the case oil in this thing? Ive looked and i cant see where it is supposed to drain out or where you put it in.
2. The Oil injection system im assuming is for the gas mixture and not the case, but what oil should i be using? 2 cycle oil, or injector oil?
THanks, I need answers fast before we leave for a trip in 2 days. Thanks again

Engine is lubricated through the oil that mixes with the gas. I use motul but opinions vary on what brand , but yes use two stroke oil. There isn't a standard gear box to change the oil in so you won't find the drain plug that your looking for, however there is a plug for the rear gear box back towards the sprocket the plug on top is a bolt and is not what you would call easy to put oil in, I use a syringe to install the oil, which isn't much. Sorry but my memory is slipping on the exact amount and type of oil to use. Have fun those little 80's kick glute.

quadduck is correct, there is a small bolt on the bottom you drain with, it is just a normal bolt, so it doesn't look like a drain, same with the one on the side, near the back on the same side as the belt cover. If I remember correctly, you can just use a good quality motor oil 10-40 or better, and it takes about 8 oz., and yes,it is a pain to fill. As far as injector oil, since it take so little to run that motor, I always used Yamalube 2S oil, burns real clean, and the motor will last forever on that stuff.

All I can add is::
Yes a 10-30 or 10-40 oil is fine for the gear box. By the front sprocket there is a bolt that you take out. You fill the gear box up till it runs out this hole. The syringe is a good thought! You can try putting a funnel (very small) on the gear box vent tube to fill it. Remove the normal fill bolt to let the air out if you do the funnel idea.
Once the oil is comming out the check hole, I put the bolt back in and fill it some more.
You can use any 2 cycle injector oil. It must say for injector use.
Hope that helps
