Default choke conversion help

Has anyone every converted their automatic choke to a manual? Is this even possible? I think actually that adding a manual choke like a butterfly in the intake would work. Any ideas?

Why? Are you having problems with the auto choke?

Default choke conversion help

I know a polaris scrambler 90 has a kit out to replace the troublesome auto choke.

It wasn't too expensive and from memory, I think the automatic portion of the carb is exactly alike on all these type quads and if it isn't, its probably similar enough to modify it to work. good luck!

Yes. I don't believe the automatic choke does anything. The quad fires and starts well everytime, but always idles very slow and will die. This will happen several (at least 6) times before I can manipulate the throttle enough to keep it running. It warms up in a few minutes and all is well.

I removed the airbox in preparation for a K&N filter over the weekend. This gives me access to choke it with my hand over the intake when I start it. Choking it manually this way works well. I can control the "choke" with my hand as it warms up.

I will lose this option obviously when I put the K&N filter on.

Have you taken apart the carb and cleaned it. The e-choke on my wifes yamoto works perfectly since cleaning the carb. I think it was sticking. It will fire up, idle high for approx. 45 sec.s, then idle normal. Have you adjusted the airscrew. My wifes needed to be turned out 1/4 turn. Now at 1 3/4 turns out from bottomed.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to go there actually!!! But, alas, it looks like I will give it a whirl. I have played with the air mixture needle and am currently at 2 1/2 turns out. It did not, however, make a difference at start up. At least you give me hope that cleaning the carb might work.

Wish me luck because I've never taken a carb off before to clean it. Any tips would be appreciated.
