Default HammerHead Twister

Hello All !

I purchased my Twister a week ago, have only bout 1/2 hour on it, been
a little too wet and cold in the NE.

I have read in these forums that A performance CDI is a needed upgrade,
just wondered who made one and where to get it.

I like the kart so far,
but like most of the other owners, wish it had just a little more
on take off.

I was thinking about the top end, has anyone put a tack on one to see what
the stock config maxes out at ?
Reason I ask, in the limited few seconds I ran the engine out (still breakin in)
it didnt sound as if the engine was actualy turning that much. sounded as though
it could go a little more comfortably. That got me to think about being able to adjust the
ignition timing and the possibility of having a CDI that allowed some adjustment ..

Anyway, If any one here has any performance ideas, Id love to hear them,

Glenn

If you are looking for increased performance, I would go ahead and read the whole other thread on the twister. I as well as others comment on pipes and intakes which really do make a difference. I don't personally see how a cdi will make much of an improvement, but I am no expert either.

Also check out this excellent site on the nearly identical yerf dog engine:
150cc engine

good luck, I think you will enjoy it!

Well... 2005 models of many of the carts specifically make note that the CDI was changed, as well as other ignition parts. Power rating went up to 12hp from 10hp on the KPX which appears to have the same engine as twister without apparant exhaust mods.

I think CDI is part of the equation... but just how much is the question?

I have a white brothrs CDI built for small displacement honda 4 strokes that I will be using in my Xterro soon and then on my 2005 Blade two seater when it gets here.

Thanks for all the pointers, I managed to get through the previous thread or at least to page 18.
Tough reading when ppl post about different subjects in one thread, all in all I am not knocking anyone
and I am glad people did post, as I have learned a thing or two...

I did see that the 05 have a few upgrades, Im glad about that for sure.
Would have made my blood boil if I had the last 04 !!!

I have been reading a bunch and have not been able to find out,
Engine make on the 05 twister ?
Does this engine have the oversized valves ?
Carb manufacturer ?
avaliablilty of a service manual ?
Any place to find stampings with serial/model numbers ?
Availability of getting an owners manual?

I got the wrong one, the dealer
said its the only one they had, that someone must have been givin mine
and that there were only small differnces between my 2 seater and the single seater
manual I recieved.

Thanks to all for the help !

The engine looked identical to my 04 twister, I guess they could have changed cdi or
something but I doubt it. They usually advertise this years as being "more powerful" or
updated cdi or something with no way to verify it. Like I said, externally the engine was
identical, I will bet it still has the head mine has on it, which performs well with exhaust and
intake upgrades, plenty of low rpm torque.

Carb should have the big K on it for keihn, made in japan.

Service manual, you will have to download the Yerf-Dog manual for a how-to on engine stuff.

Owners manual, the single seat version should be fine, the only changes I know the 05 has is the
nice wheels, snorkel, new bracket on reverse assembly. My manual shows every single piece of the
cart and part numbers for each, including all engine pieces but not how to dis-assemble it or torque
readings etc.

Engine code is right there on the block.

Good luck and enjoy,
Kell

Gee... what other forum would that be? Only one I'm aware of that would be talking about those is sponsered by a DAZON dealer...
