Default What do you do in California??

I'm at a loss. I wanted to get my 4 year old a quad this summer but I have not found any that can be green stickered in California. I am just wondering what those of you located in California do - what type of quad do you have for your kids - do you just not register them?? I know that people are doing something because I see little guys and girls on quads at Pismo all the time.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

. Depending on where you ride you wont need one. Only in desinated areas. I have been riding at many locations in California all my life, I never nor has anyone I know got sweated for not having a red or green sticker. More then likely you would get off the hook without a ticket, especially being with a child. The green sticker allows riding in desinated areas during certain times of the year. Look up www.dmv.ca.gov for details.

The only Chinese quad that is green sticker approved is the Yamoto 110. You can buy others on ebay or other sources and take your chances. I got one for my wifes yamoto 150, but from what I hear I was lucky. The rules according to VIN's is if the 8th digit is a "3" or "C", then DMV will issue you a red sticker. If not you will get a green sticker. My wifes yamoto has a H for the 8th digit. That probubly helped.

As far as I know, all quads/motorcyles that are pre 2003 have been issued a green sticker. I bought my daughter a Scrambler 50 in '02 and was issued a red sticker, they changed some law after that and with our next registration renewal we received a green sticker. Up until then all 2 strokes were red sticker as far as I knew. You can either find a new 4 stroke, don't know if any 50's are 4 stroke, or buy a used quad that has a green sticker. My daughter was 4 when I got her the 50 and it has been great for the past three years, I did some minor mods to give it some more power and it almost keeps up with the 80's and 90's, but she's ready to move up to a true 90 as they do have more power and do much better on the hills in the dunes. I'm trying to decide if I purchase a new red sticker quad or try and find a good used '01 or '02 for the green sticker. We really don't ride during the summer, but it would be nice to know that we're legal if we decide to take a trip during the summer.

I purchased in Febuary a 2005 90 4 stroke Arctic cat for my son the dealer told me it should recieve a green sticker. I t seems fairly peppy for a small 4 stroke so far no problems on any hills or such.
