mike...just wondering....i see youve had some post with some low end power issues... we havent had any problems with ours on hilly terrain, sandy hills, or rooty trails.... just pondering different solutions....hes about the same size as mine maybe a tad bigger... billy at wrh here in town is one of the bigger pred guru's out there.... im sure if you give him the application and desired outcome he will have a solution....or he might tell you to get a 4 stroke...hope this helps

He's pretty average size, but it's the terrain here I've got issue with. You're either going up or down on these trails and they are often rocky. So, that's my issue. I'm going to give this machine a season and if it doesn't work out, I'll sell it and purchase a 4 stroke. Never know what next yr machines will have re: options. Thanks for the info.

i think the biggest diff is the holdback you get from being able to gear down on the Yamaha. it really helps on some of the steeper stuff. don't forget, you got those idaho mtns from BC.... we let them continue south across the border! in return, you sent us your para-military groups to train in those same mtns in the Kootenays!

Well, my son has a Raptor 80, and if the grizz had been available when I bought it, I would have opted for that one because it has running boards and a little more fender.
As for power to weight... my son is 5'2" now, and just slightly over a hundred pounds.. it is plenty for him.. and I haven't taken the restrictor out of the air filter system yet.... so we have a place to go there... Also, there are several ATV vendors out there specializing in Raptor 80's (Cant' tell you there name or I violate policy of this site) But they sell rims, tires, exhaust, and most important LITE KITS!
I will admit that old Dragginbutt has taken it for a spin or two... and found it adequate... on hills (our yard is about a 30 degree downslope in places.)
Oh yeah, I am 6'3" and weigh in at a blessed 300 pounds... And no, I don't have pictures so you guys can all laugh at me.... I look like one of those full grown men on a mini pocket rocket... all knees and round belly, BIG "A" GRIN on my face.. beard and slightly balding hair and all... of course I ride with a helmet at all times mind you. All I need now is a pony tail and people would think I was crazy.... wait, they already do... Oh well...
(I actually look like my avatar..).

Dragginbutt, You can mention them, (as long as it is not YOUR company) just don't be a salesmen for them.
I hear your old, but, did you learn to spell before g and h were invented? Just joken with ya!!!
I've mentioned before my sons difference from your son. My son grew bored with our badger after about a year (although he rode it alot longer than that) and wanted more. (and rightfully he was beyond it) He went from it to our modded LT80. He rode that about a year and a half and now I've moved him to a blaster. He is 9 and rides as good as any adult I've seen. (maybe a little bit of braging here) He does not do as well on a four stoke as he does on the 2. My other son is total opposite. I think alot of it is the rider. My youngest son learned real fast how to keep the 2 stroke going even in the tightest of woods. My oldest son likes being able to lug his four stroke around. I do like kids to learn how to shift. I believe auto quads have made it so people (kids included) that don't really need to be rideing, are out riding just because anyone can get on an auto and gas it and go. (but thats a whole nother topic. What were we talking about anyways?

Well, for one thing...let me 'splain you something... I have these fingers designed for milking cows and working on a farm.. and they give me this itty bitty keyboard to use... and well my fingers all get twisted and they stutter from time to time... I swear to God they do..
I cannot type any word that has a "th" in it without having to back space and fix it.... and for some time now, the spell check feature on this forum has not been my best friend...
Now because of age, and weakening vision, I find I can't hold the keyboard far enough away for the letters to come into focus any more... so I have to guess at it sometimes... Some day you will find out what I mean...
As for spelling... well that is a result of my terrible typing skills as well... I can't type as fast as I think... so sometimes things get all crossed up, left out etc... Hey, what's a few g's or an H between friends anyway. Besides, with all this new math and English.. who's to say my spelling wasn't correct when I was a kid.... What the heck is phonetics and hooked on phonics got to do with anything anyway?
Man if you only knew... imagine having your mother as your 4th grade teacher... I can tell you some stories about schoolin... and English was never my good subject.... I majored in trouble as a kid... got kicked out of cubscouts, and out of a parochial school where my mom taught. At the end of the school year (6th grade), we were told to find other places to occupy my time... Hello public school...
