modded lt 80 bites the dust

Hey guys my son had his lt go tom union on us this weekend at the dunes. He was drag racing non stop for about 45 min and we decided to take off down the beach, long story short he drifted into the surf at top speed and that was all she wrote. Looks like no compression has spark gas and won't even burp with starting fluid. Motor turns over rally fast now. So do I rebuild or move him up to a blaster or something?

Hey bro do a compresion test on that LT, you might be suprise to find out there is not enough compresion to get the LT to fire up. I am close to where you are in regards to moving the kid up to a BLASTER. Never the less I have to keep in mind that my son is still 9 years old. He is with out a doubt a great rider but I see things that still need improvement on. I have decided to hold off on buying him the Blaster only to teach him a little more about ridng curtsey. He rides very well but gets cought up when riding with other kids his own age. Witnessing this I have decided to wait, I feel that if I moved him up to a 200cc I would be signing his death certificate. He is only nine and still has that No Fear attituded, never the less he is still a kid and needs a little more sattle time before I decided to move him up. He has been rinding since he was two, I know I got allot of slack for teaching him at such a young age.
Hope this helps......

I was in the same boat, but I went with the Blaster. My son got his (a 2003) for x-mas this past year, and he turned 9 in April. The only thing that is done to it is I widen it out some and put new tires on it. I to started him out at a early age (4) and I believe he is a very good rider. I have not regretted moving him up, not even when he does get bigger then his briches. The blaster is more forgiving than the LT. The Blaster has better suspension, handling, and power. We also have a 300ex, and while the blaster and 300 compare power wise, my son does not "fit" the 300 nearly as well as he does on the blaster. I know we cannot ride on public land because of his age, but thats not really that big of deal to us. (we have about 3000 acres around us to ride on) And the local track has allready cleared my sons to race if we so choose. I liked our LT, and it was alot of fun modding. But I don't miss it at all.

New piston and rings and my boy is back in business. We made a 4000.00 dollar mistake and bought him a new z 250, great trail quad but won't hold a candle to the little lt in the sand. Oh well now he has 2 quads. Jack thanks for your advice on putting the motor together.
This was my first 2 stroke rebuild and its nice to see it go really well.
