2005 KFX 80 Is it the right quad???
#1
I've been looking for a faster quad for my son. He currently has a Raptor 80 but the Kawi KFX80 has really caught his eye. I see one now on Ebay for $1000.00 and wondering if this is the right move. I figure the 2 stroke 80 will be faster than the 4 stroke Raptor but living in CT we are constantly riding up steep (at least 50+ degrees) inclines and dont always have room to get speed up b4 you hit it. The combo between the continuously variable automatic transmission and 2-stroke motor has me nervous he will be dissapointed...
Anyone out there with some words of wisdom?

Welcome to the forums.
I had a moto-4 years ago. Certainly no hill climbing machine.
The 2 stroke motor and CVT tranny is what should make you think this is a good choice for your son. They have a ton of bottom end in stock form.
BTW, if you have a manual for the moto, please go to the "moto-4" thread and help that guy out. He deffinitly needs a friend.

I'd get the serial numbers and check with law enforcement first. I'd hate to give a thief money and then have the cops impound another guys machine.
Good luck and have fun.

We have had a Badger and a LT80 at the same time for a couple of years. If all of the restrictions are out of the raptor, it should climb anything its pointed at, and more than any parent should let their youngens try. On the other hand, so should the KXF. Both should climb very well. You run into problems when you have a kid thats to big on it trying to hill climb. Or, they do not learn when to shift. I had found that our Badger would climb anything that I pointed it at as long as I didn't start off from a dead stop. (and my big fat butt goes in about 220lbs!!) The best thing about the raptor is not going up the hill, but coming down. It will have engine braking where the KXF won't. Its no big deal unless your kid is starting out, or just doesn't pay enough attention, and then there can be trouble. Alot of people bad mouth the raptors. But I feel like they are great trail quads. And I have seen one almost win a flat track race, leading some very high named, "built", LT80's. They don't make good mx'ers! But very few do in stock trim.
