Mini 90 ATV (SunL) from RaceWay ATV
#1
Hello,
I'm new to the forum, but found the info very valuable on multiple topics. We are new to the ATV world having just purchased a mini 90 from Raceway ATV for our son. It should be delivered soon.
The gal on the phone told me that these are manufactured by SunL. Anyone have experience with this ATV? Reliability? Setup tips for when it arrives?
Thanks!

SunL is a distributor here in Houston (http://www.sunl.com/), I don't think they are a manufacturer. I have a SunL 50 that I think is really a 70, or maybe even a 90 (it does 37mph wide open). Looking at the pictures on the raceway site, this is exactly the same ATV. They even list the top speed at 37mph, so I guess I do have a 90.
I love this ATV but I've had the following issues:
-I had a problem with the chain almost coming off the rear sprocket and kindof riding up on the side of the chain. Hard to explain, but it make the chain very tight. Now that I have resolved it on my own, I think there were two causes, engine movement, and incorrect sprocket alignment. There's a bracket available from Redcat that attaches to the front of the engine and the frame that reduces the engine movement. I also removed the rear sprocket and added a couple of small washers between the sprocket and it's mounting point to move the sprocket slightly to the left. It took both of these changes to fix my problem.
-The Headlight shines way up at an angle that makes it useless. I was able to install an extention to the lower mounting bracket to lower the angle and make it usable.
-The battery tends to go dead if not used for a week or two.
I would be interested in hearing if these issues have been resolved. It's basically great bike and will haul an adult around easily.

Redcat makes the new headlight that doesn't shine in the sky anymore
Also, just disconnect the alarm and the battery will last. I was told when done riding to hit unlock 2 times and you wont have any problems. I just disconnected it and said the heck with it. Also have to upgrade to a better battery.

Exactly how did you disconnect the alarm? Mine was just stuck under the plastic with double sided tape, and most of it's parts are just hanging now, so I'd like to yank it out. Just wasn't sure if there were any tricks to it.

There are 2 plugs for it under the left side cover. A 2 way and I believe 6 way plug. After you unplug the 2 way the key wont work anymore. I just use the red on off on the handle bar.

I may be picking up one of these 90's for my daughter tomorrow. One thing I noticed on it, there's a metal post on the front steering mechanism that my 70 doesn't have. It changes the turning radius from about 10' to about 30' (I'm guessing here). Looks like the post can be cut off to solve the problem. Have no idea what they were thinking.

I picked up a Sunl 90 this evening to go with our Sunl 50(maybe 70?). Now my kids don't have to share.
The dealer gave me an awesome deal on it (cost I think). He probably just wanted to get rid of it since a new model is out, and knew that I knew how to fix the issues and that I wouldn't harrass him about them.
First observation, there's a different peice in the steering mechanism that greatly increases the turning radius to the point of rediculous. I disconnected the tie rods, raised the steering shaft an inch or so, and cut off the shaft that limits the steering travel. That fix seems to have worked.
Next I installed an engine brace to reduce the engine movement which is even worse on this ATV since it has more torque than the 50.
I also noticed that the headlight is redesigned and perfectly adjusted. (I had to modify the headlight on the 50 to make it shine on the ground instead of the sky).
The other very noticable difference was power. The 50 is fast, but the 90 has even more power. It will spin the back wheels easily on the dirt.
Next I've got to play with the throttle so it's easier to push the lever. My daughter's thumb gets tired quickly.
I saw the latest model at the dealer and they have fixed the throttle problem with an easy to push lever (I may try to order that part), and there's a new rear axle that hopefully fixes some of the chain/spocket alignment issues.

We just received our SunL 90 yesterday. At least I think it is a SunL 90. The gal at Raceway ATV mentioned that it was from SunL. It is Raceway's mini 90cc. There are no markings that I have seen that comfirm who the manufacturer is...it is branded as a "Freedom 90".
I assembled it in about 1-2 hours and after a few minutes to get it started, we were up and running around the yard. I was pretty impressed. The owner's manual is lacking - as a matter of fact most of what is in there does not apply and the pictures are incorrect. The assembly instructions were also missing. The service guy at Raceway gave me some quick verbal instructions and that seemed sufficient - just a few left over cotter pins and can't figure out how to attach the rubber hub covers so that they don't fall off.
The service guy told me that I don't need to change the oil until after the 2nd tank of gas.
We do not appear to have the short turning radius, but I don't have anything to compare it to. It turns pretty tight circles.
After my son rode it for one afternoon, I have only one complaint. He is a new rider so I keep the throttle limiter set fairly low. However, because it is a fully automatic (which I think means they just have a single high gear - like 3rd gear) it doesn't get enough power to get moving - even on flat ground with my 45 pound rider. I have to give him a push and once he is rolling it goes fine (unless he tries to go up an incline). When I back off the throttle limiter enough to solve this problem then the top speed, once he gets going, is too fast. Any suggestions? Once he is good enough to handle the faster speeds I guess this won't be an issue.
The thumb throttle on this one is also difficult to push - his thumb wore out after about an hour. His 6-year old sister could barely push it.
The manual says that there is a fuel petcock (on- off - res) between the gas tank and the carburator - but I cannot find one. All I see is a small, clear plastic fuel filter. I will take a closer look tonight. Also, I think I need to adjust the idle since it stalls out periodically at idle.
Anyone know how to put one of these in neutral?
Overall - we are quite happy with it so far. I will let you know how things go in the first couple of weeks.
