2000 Eton 90 bogging out
#21
Thanks for all the replies:
Oldyeller, I wish I knew someone with the same bike so I could try the manual choke. I may buy one anyways just to prevent problems later.
Itch, I will try to put my hand over the air intake part of the carb to see it it will rev up then. If it does rev up, does that mean I may have low compression? I will have to go buy a compression tester to see what the compression is currently.
Bryan, I have already had the whole carb apart and cleaned everything, jets and float bowl included. Did eton tech give you any other advice?
Thanks again guys,
Kory

The problem sound like a fuel flow problem.
Have you checked the fuel filter?
Have you check the fuel cap vent?
Have you check to see if fuel is flowing from the tang to the carburetor?
Have you check to see if there is dirt in the carburetor bowl?
Have you flushed the carburetor?

Once you have tried everything listed so far, my next suggestion would be possibly the stator, coil, or CDI box. Believe it not the stators in these mini's are not all that great and they tend to be the more common electrical failure out of the three. Their is no real good way to test the stator or CDI box. So before you go buying one of these make sure you have eliminated everything else that could be a possibilty. I actually wondered this in the very beginning but I wanted you to try all the other possibilties first. One thing I've learned over the years is that people hate to hear that they may have a bad stator or CDI. To make bad news worse, sometimes when a stator goes out, it will take the CDI with it. Like I said though, the stators are most usually the weakest link. So if all else fails and you end up heading down this road, first try testing the coil. If thats OK then try a stator and if that doesn't fix it then try a CDI box.

I tried the vapor lock, and it still boggs out.
Elroy, how do you test the coil? The previous owner mentioned to me that the only problem he had with the quad is it did the same thing I am describing, he changed the coil and it ran fine. I was thinking that since the coil is newer, only like ten trips on it, that may not be the problem. I guess the coil is my next attempt at a fix.
Thanks for all the help guys. Once I figure out how to test the coil I will let you all know what the results are.
Thanks again,
Kory

the other day i worked on a eton 50. it was acting the same. the owner had gotten it stuck in the mud and it got hot and melted the plastic around the motor. upon closer inspection i noticed the cylinder leaking compression. new head gasket, plastic around the engine, fan, and i cut the wire for the rev limiter and he was on his way. i would check compression. after that i put that in my normal rutine of checking out bikes. might not be it but worth a try.
