To inject or not to inject...
This one stuck in my mind.
I'm talking with a guy that's running a 30 yr old Arctic cat snowmobile. My point is that there is injection systems that obviously will last as long as the machine around it. I think my sled (94 and sold) used a vibration type of pump. I'm sure some are vaccum and other ways too.
The LT80 is a gear driven pump. More parts, more trouble. I agree that 99% would last forever.

I dont believe you would have a problem selling it unless your buyer doesnt know much about atvs and he has talked to your dealer.The service manager(yamaha & honda) in my town told me that he had never seen the injector system fail.If your worried about it,Can you leave the system on the bike and plug it off somehow then when you need it serviced just plug it back up.

First, I'd find a different dealer to talk to. Then I'd ditch the injector. True, you might have kids that use the wrong gas can. That's why I'd have one marked so they'd know which to use.
And it's educational. You'll be teaching them about ratios and they won't even know it. Think about how many people you talk to in a day that have no idea of what a good mix ratio is. Now you can say "Even my kid knows that."

If you question whether or not the oil injection is working properly I refer to an OLD article from a motorboat magazine I once subscribed to. I can't quote it word for word as I have since lost the article. It seems that when Evinrude/Johnson started selling its outboard motors with oil injection in the late 80's-early 90's the oil injection was very weak and failed --OFTEN-- causing many self destructing outboard engines. Many of the early Evinrude/Johnson oil-injected owners learned to not only fill the oil-injection tank, but also mixed oil in the main gas tank as a precaution. The only side effect to this was fouled spark plugs and a somewhat stinky exhaust. This was a contributing factor to Evinrude's demise is the late 90's. Last I heard Bombardier bought Evinrude out and bailed 'em out.
the oil injector pump drive gear rides on the crankshaft- the crankshaft gear is focking nylon, the oil pump gear was brass! The nylon gear on both motors was stripped- no alarms or nothing.
Now I'm just waiting for my current 220 merc m2 jet to blow- as soon as I can swing the payments- I'm bailing on my 2 stroke marine motors and buying a 4 stroke with a closed loop cooling system!!!

I wouldn't- every stroke that piston makes without lube mixed in the gas creates more friction, heat & wear- there are many other ways to test a pump and keep 2 stroke flowing through the carb.
if he melts his piston because he ran it too long following your instruction, are you paying for the rebuild? That diag might be good for an experienced mech to try out in the shop- not a tech noob.
if you want to check out that pump- just premix a quart of 2 stroke and let it run, then you can test the injector at idle and at 2500 rpm... worst case scenario, you foul the plug- at least you're not gambling your motor to test the oil pump.
