If you'd like a manual on the engine find a Clymer- Honda 50-110cc Ohc Singles, 1965-1999 repair manual. Here's a link to one http://shopping.msn.ca/prices/shp/?itemId=6200200
I've had the manual clutches apart before but not the semi auto ones. I know our little 110 is geared a bit high in 1st.
If you go on Raceway's site under parts they show a picture of the clutch assembly for a 110cc.

I have replaced mine with the same Honda friction pads. It is actually very easy. Seems how that was my first time ever working on a quad. The nut holding the basket in place is notched. I just found a old deep well socket and grinded off all but two tabs. I believe it was 11/16 but not sure. Also used an impact to remove. Once that was off just take off the retaining clip on the back. I would take the pads out and lay them on the bench in order so you know how they go back. After you put it all back together you will notice a big difference in take off.

Backfiring may be sometimes caused by problems on ignition system such as a malfunctioned CDI or some contact intermittent at wiring connecters as well as problems on carburetion, spark-plug or tappet clearances as spliffy stated. Just allow me suggest checking them, please. Hope your quads would be fine.
