Polaris Sportsman 90 Stall

Thanks for all the suggestions. We went riding the other day. Mostly open field full throttle stuff. I still don't think it's right, but he has learn to handle it. I really have no idea how high it revs up before taking off, but it acts like an stall stall converter on a dragster. Of course, the good thing it doesn't have a lot of power. My stock KFX 700 has zero stall and doesn't move at idle. I realize there are many differences between these two machines: weight 300 vs 500 lbs., 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke, 90 cc vs 700 and the list goes on. I will probably tear into it because it's hard to believe this is right. He has compensated for it, but I believe the moment is coming when it will cause a problem. Please keep the ideas coming. Should I just buy another clutch? Or just the rollers? If this is even possible...

The clutch rollers can be changed with out anything else, the heavyer the weights the faster the rollers will roll to the top of the ramp. The intial engagment is in the springs in the rear clutch and if I had to guess someone has probably already played with them. Right now I am running 2000 engagement springs in the rear so it will come a little harder off the line. I am going to a 1 tooth larger sprocket on the front and a little lighter weights, probably 5.5 or 6 grams. Right now I am running 6.5 gram roller weights, red main rear spring and purple engagament springs. I believe the rear is set up for a 2000 rpm engagment. One other thing to check if it is stalling is that your pucks on the rear clutch are good and not worn down. If they are worn down they will not grip the outer housing good enough. There was an post above that mentioned flat spots on your rollers, this can cause a slight stall because the rollers if they are positioned on the flat spot will not roll up, on the same note if the rollers are rolled up at top speed and sit on a flat spot will not shift down an can actually kill the motor. This one I learned the hard way. I hope this helps. If you want to send me a PM I will help you work through it.
