i called my local gander MTN, and asked them for a good ATV for a teenager. they said that a 250 2 wheel drive would be good. i do not know the brand, but all i know is that he said it is about $3299. is that over priced? and if not, would yuo suggest the atv?

Welcome to the forums.
I'd say that a 250 2wheel drive is fine but at that price, I'd investigate more options.
Questions to ask yourself. ::
How often is the machine going to be rode?
Where is going to be rode?
Is the quad going to be rode hard or easy?
Who really makes this quad?
Is there parts available and where?
Are you mechanically inclined enough or are you going to pay for service and repair work?
Hand clutch, auto clutch, CVT (belt drive)?
The answers for above will tell if you want a name brand machine or a el-cheapo chinese import (like I think the model your looking at is).
There is tons of info on these forums about most any machine out there that can help with your decision. Read away.
OK, my opinion on machines:: To put it in a nutshell,I like the name brands. I'll mention a few that I would recommend you looking into
Honda 250ex
Suzuki Z250 These 2 are auto clutch ie: just shift up and down w/no clutch needed.
I'm sure Polaris and Kawasaki makes a nice CVT machine.
My personal favorite is the Kymco Mongoose 300. CVT, forward/reverse and can take whatever you can give it. I've raced one in 2- 12 hour races as a endurance test. Trust me, they can take abouse! It's sure not a born and bred racer.Rather a machine that's great for the beginner right on up. The wife loves it. It's HER machine..Just ask her. LMAO
I'm sure others will chime in with great replys.
Good luck with your decision.

Well, knowing how teenagers are, you might want to find a good used one.
The money saved could be used to add mods later. I can't see your teen being any different than the rest of us. Eventually, he/she will want it to go faster.

I agree with LT80 on the TRX250ex or the Suzuki Z250. Check out craigslist.org for a used ATV. I have seen many TRX250's on there lately for $1200 or less in my area. Here is one I found near me... Suzuki Z250

If it's a DVX 250, you're really buying a Kymco Mongoose 250 with Arctic Cat plastic and badging.
For that, I do like LT80 had suggested and get the Kymco 300.
That's also an automatic. Keeping in that group opens up the Polaris Trail Blazer 250. '06 and earlier models are 2 strokes. Size wise, it is just a little bigger than the DS250 we have, which would leave some growing room. Power wise, it's very tame stock, but can be made pretty quick, even on a budget.
