Very fast LT80
Ok guys, thought I'd post a thread to tell everyone about my LT80 build.
My son has an '87 LT80 that had the lower end rod bearing go out back in Feb. It sat in my garage for quite a while, but I finally decided to fix it. Also, if I was going to go through the trouble of splitting the cases, I might as well make it go fast while I'm there. So several months later, I contacted none other than Jack Moore. I rebuilt the crank myself (pain in the A$$ - should have listened to Jack and just bought a new crank) and reassembled the motor myself, but I had Jack do all the go-fast mods to my carb, head, cylinder, piston, and clutches (front and rear).
Originally wanted to get this back together for my son's b-day back in October, but that just couldn't happen. Took Jack a little longer to find time to work on it from his full time gig, and it took me WAY longer to find time to put it back together than I hoped. But it's finally back together now and I've done a few heat cycles with it and a couple 3/4 throttle runs through the yard.
Dammmm this little buggger flies! Decided to let my son take it for a maiden voyage through the yard last night around 10:30- just a quick down and back since he's been so patient with me trying to find time to work on this. He had a huge grin on his face and I don't think he slept at all last night. The only disappointment had to be from my neighbors because this thing is loud and obnoxious. Luckily, I'm the head trustee of my subdivision so at least I won't get fined!
Anyway, huge huge thanks go to Jack. He is definitely the shiznit with these little things. I will be taking some pics soon hopefully. I will post some on here and over on quadracerhq.com
I'll probably write up a more detailed article too on what went good and bad with this build. I did have a few hangups with some things. (My brand new Trinity pipe fit like cr@p and needed a lot of work. Their jig must have been off.) To be clear though, all of the mods Jack did are perfect. No complaints whatsoever with any of his work. He also called me after he shipped to parts back to give me some pointers on reassembly as well as break in. He really takes pride in his work. He even sent an autographed photo of his pro riding daughter upon my request for my son. Very cool dude!
All for now,
yagerzzz
