Do you have front AND rear brakes, or just rear brakes? If you have just rear brakes, and the engine cranks when you depress the rear brake pedal, and the engine doesn't crank when you don't press the rear brake pedal, then the rear brake switch is fine.

I got so focused on my own brake switch problems I didn't mention some other possiblities: Is the brake light burned out? Is the socket that it plugs into bad? Use a voltmeter to measure voltage at the brake light to ground while pushing or not pushing the brake pedal.

I found the problem there's a little spring that's connects the foot brake to the rear tail light that needed to be connected properly. I will need to replace the spring.
