I'm just going to bring the cylinder to a local machine shop (very highly recommended to me), and have them bore it out, then I will order the piston kit, along with the gasket set separately. I also need to purchase a battery too.

Another thing I want to add was the guy who sold me the quad powder coated the frame and engine covers. He did a really nice job. I'm hoping to get this thing up and running soon.

Thank you everyone for your help to date.

Pete

You will need to have the piston before you take it to the shop. If you are not comfortable measuring the bore have the shop tell you what size overbore to order. He should still need to have the new piston to bore the cylinder.

I don't have the piston, just the cylinder, so with that said, how should I proceed with this? I'm not just going to buy the piston without knowing if it's the correct fit or not.

If you have the old piston you can read the numbers on the top & reread LT80's instructiuons above. Order the next size up if the cylinder is not badly scored. You can also take the cylinder to your machine shop where he can inspect it and tell you what size to order.

I do not have the old piston, as stated in my last post. The cylinder appears to be in great shape with no scores, and by looking at the condition of the ATV, I wouldn't be suprised if it was never rebuilt before.

I'm going to bring the cylinder to a local machine shop this week to have them inspect and make recommendations. I'm eager to get this thing up and running.

Thank you for you help.

Hate to revive an old thread - but I too am looking for a good shop/service manual for an LT80. Going to install a headlight, new hood scoop and a stator for a winter project. I saw 95wolv was looking for one too, but never saw any suggestions on a good one.

Any ideas? The dealer wants 80$ and they have to order it. Haven't seen one put out by Clymer!
