TaoTao 125-D Front Sprocket Info
Hey everyone I just thought I would post this piece of information because I have seen a few people looking to make their TaoTao 125-D with the automatic transmission have a little more low end get up and go. I found a company called JT Sprocket, http://www.jtsprockets.com , that has all the dimensions to the sprockets they make. So I was able to figure out that the 125-D uses a 1979-81 Honda Z50 front sprocket. The range is actually bigger than that. The part number is JTF252.12. Wahoo! So I ordered a new 12 Tooth front from AtvUnlimited on EBay for a total of $15.99. I only rode it for a couple of minutes in the 15 degree weather, but the one tooth drop did make a nice little difference. Please beware that I had to grind the metal tab that the sprocket bolts to slightly. It was contacting the chain. Even with the 13 tooth on I could see marks on it making contact aleady. Now it I can just find a slightly bigger rear sprocket, like a 40-42. with the right bolt pattern and I will be even happier. I just have to make sure that the sprocket isn't too bit to have the chain make contact with the frame. Happy ATVing.
