03' LT50 power concern?

Question 03' LT50 power concern?

Hey guys, new to the site. I just picked up an 03 LT50 for my little boy. The bike starts fine and idles, sounds fine. Now I am a big guy 250lbs but I know I have sat on other LT50's and been able to move my fat butt around. But my sons will barely go anywhere. I got my 6 yr old daughter on it and let her take a stab at it and it moves her ok but then once under a load like going up a hill it doesnt have the power, it literally came to a stop.......what do you think is the issue? Did I buy a bike that is on the verge of popping a motor you think?

any advice or help is appreciated....

I looked and it is missing the crew at the throttle for the govenor....so the throttle is not restricted.....

Your correct, without that screw, it has no limiter on the throttle.
Clean the carb and see if that helps. Maybe a plugged jet.

thanks for the response.....Thats what I will do....does the carb need to come off to be cleaned properly?

Yes.
You'll want to remove both jets and the float/float needle and spray everything with carb cleaner. Make sure you can see thru the jets.

The quads came with a few factory restrictors in them, they are probably still in place, and once removed you'll see a big difference.
-Intake restrictor: This is located on the intake elbow between the carb and the jug. It is a flat round piece of metal with a slot hole in it. What you have to do is take the intake elbow off, and heat it with a propane torch. This melts the glue that holds the restrictor in place. Once it's been heated, you can pluck the restrictor out with a screwdriver. Clean up the intake elbow, and then put it back on.
-Exhaust restrictor: Some people have said that there was to be a washer type restrictor on the exhaust side of the jug at the pipe, but ours didn't have one. Check to see if there is one there, if so remove it.
Once the restrictors are out, it should run alot better. Hope this helps you out.
