ok mr. lt80. i found out that the port in question is the carb vent so i took the vacuum cap that the previous owner put on it off and wow! problem solved! i mean, are you kidding me?! three damned weeks of throwing everything i could think of and then some, and that was it! thanks for going back and forth with me on this issue. this machine was close to becoming an expensive boat anchor. just wondering, do you just throw a tube on the vent port and hang it down below the motor, or should it be held up out of the way of dirt. thanks again. my kids, and i especially, are very happy.

Umm, as you suspect, don't try adjusting the float. It'll cost you 19.95. Another fella in here just did all that. LOL
On the right side of the carb there are 3 holes. Closest to the motor is the vac supply to the petcock. The middle is the fuel supply. The front hole is the vent. If that's plugged, unplug it and see how it goes.

Hello everyone new to site... sounds like the quad is running rich if you take air cleaner off and runs better. thats gives more air,, try pinching off fuel line while running[up on blocks] and see if it run better as fuel is getting lower. if so try difference petcock assy. also you are going backward on needle clip if its run better with fuel pinched off also try clip in top groove which will cause needle to go further down giving you an leaner mixture.... NOW if it runs the same with fuel pinched off and don,t lean out before going dead than it aint an fuel problem.... But sound like from what you said it should run better when you pinch off line.....Just and ideal... try it and get back... thanks..
