88 Yamaha Breeze 125
Daughter has a 88 Yamaha Breeze 125 and the thing runs great, tons of parts still available and starts right up. The only problem is occasionally when shifting into reverse the quad stalls out, does it when hot and cold so I am not real sure of the cause. She pulls in the front brake handle when shifting and it still stalls out. Is there a reverse limiter that could cause this??? Anyone have any ideas where to look, sometimes she gets off and pushes it a foot then it will work and she thinks THAT is the fix. HELP

are the brakes sticking? is it centrifugal clutch or manual(because you said brake handle-curious if it was clutch instead). not sure if the shifting forks might cause it to grab 1st and reverse at the same time. i'm not a tranny guy(i'm really sorry)
sorry, i don't know about a breeze. food for thought though!

Jaster,
This is an single forward and reverse tranny, but you are supposed to pull in the left handlebar (rear) brakes when switching from Neutral to reverse. I suppose there is some type of neutral safety switch and there is an actuator on the tranny lever to stop you from over revving while in reverse. I am just a little unsure what is what,
I was hoping someone would see this and report a simple cure.

I'm thinking maybe a fault in the brake wire or something to do with the safety system.
If you don't hold the brake on to shift it stalls..right (normally)?
So if a wire was to maybe be loose causing the brake light to "flicker"(so to speak) it'll shut it off when trying to put into a gear.
On a machine I just had in, if the motor was at too high of rev, it'd stall when trying to put in gear.
Good luck.
