Suzuki LT-A50 Slow To Start Moving and Won't Climb Hill

We've had a Suzuki LT-A50 (two stroke) for about a year and a half now.
Bought it for our son when he was five.
Question I have is when he pushes on the throttle from a dead stop the quad doesn't take off right away. The engine seems to need to "wind up" a bit (like a snowmobile) and then the quad will go. Once he's moving all is fine, runs great and it's been like this since we bought it. Never thought much of it until yesterday when, from a dead stop, he went to try and go up a slight hill in our yard (12 degree grade...if that makes sense). The quad would not budge. Engine wound up but the quad would not move.
Am I expecting to much from this quad or do I have a problem, I'm thinking, with the clutch or....?
Our son is 45 pounds so I don't think that's it. The guy we bought it from was, I'll say, a larger fellow who did tell me that he rode the quad when he had it for his kids.
I'm just trying to get an idea of what may be wrong, if anything, before I trot off to a dealers service shop with it. Can't have to much information.
Hopefully I provided enough information, if not please ask away and I'll respond.
Thank you for any help.

You may also want to check the drive clutch for flat spotted weights, a worn belt, or just plain dirty and gummed up clutch parts. When my boy was small, he had a well used LT80, same thing, took a lot to get it moving, then it was ok, would barely go up any inclines. I finally took it apart, rollers were almost square with flat spots, and the secondary was so gummed up with belt dust and dirt, it barel opened at all. After a belt, new rollers, a little grease, and a cleaning and polishing of all moving parts in the secondary, it turned into a snappy little hill shredder, it was like a different quad.
