Eton Dxl 90 Runs perfect without the air box
#1
Hi. I'm about to pull my hair out over my son's quad. I have pulled the carb out 2 times now and cleaned, the first time in the ultrasonic cleaner. Runs perfect without the air box snapped on the carb. When I put on the air box it bogs and dies, if i give it throttle i can barely keep it running but it will not rev up, just bogs. The fuel line is ran directly from the tank to the carb. Oil injection has been removed, running 32:1 mix. Any clue what's wrong with this? Thanks!

It's not a filter, the exhaust baffles on a two stroke get choked with carbon, they can often be removed and cleaned. Also the exhaust port can carbon up. Remove the exhaust system and check with a lamp if you can see the piston going up and down past the exhaust port when you turn the engine over. This http://www.dansmc.com/exhaust_2.htm tells you how to de-coke an exhaust but is not encouraging about your chances.

It's dumping fuel in and w/o the air box there is enough air going in to mix with all that fuel. With the air box on, it restricts the air flow thus not enough air and it chokes out.
Thanks for letting us know.

Sounds like it is now running weak. The main jet needle is usually adjustable, if you can lift it a notch in the slider, you may find it runs better. Most new Chinese carbs are made to fit a few models so need adjusting to suit the one you have fitted it to.
