I am looking to buy a new 50cc atv for my 6 year old. I am looking at the Polaris, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. But, I cannot find any good sources of reviews to gauge which is best. Does anyone have any opinions about which is best or where online to find real user reviews or maybe website/magazine shootouts that give a good reviews? I have no experience with these little quads. Thanks in advance for any info.....

 

Very few people seem to buy Children's Quads from the "big four" these days, overpriced and underpowered. We did sell a new Suzuki LTZ50 about five years ago, but it was slug slow, not a patch on the two stroke LT50 it replaced in Suzuki's line up. Quite frankly I suspect those old two stroke LT50s are better than anything you will get new. We had a Buyang 70 in for repairs a while back, went well and was quite well designed, but build quality was poor, sprockets out of round, king pin bushes made of low grade plastic, etc. However it had cost under a third of the price of the LTZ50 when new.

 

What you are looking for sir, is a nice Apex or DRR.
FYI: A 50 can be made into a 70 when that time comes.

 

I suspected that the 4 stroke 50cc quads were slow. I think I will search for an older 2 stroke quad like an older Suzuki LT 50. They pop up from time to time. The apex and. Ddr look good, but maybe too much quad for my little guy. They look like serious race machines. Thanks for replies.

 

Look at the "Kymco" lineup, very well made and parts are availiable! Made in Taiwan not China....big difference!

 

One of the older Japanese 2 strokes are reliable and hold their value. Parts are always available and their easy to work on. Especially Honda. If you find a deal on one you can use it for a few years and resell it for the same or more

 

The LT50 is a good choice for a small sized beginner for sure! They are slow but not as slow as a 4 stroke.
The Apex/DRR's can be made into a race machine but the stock machines are "normal speed" till modded. ----->Suspension is the big difference.
Like mentioned, the Kymco's are a fine machine. The 50 is a slow 4 stroke but a great machine.
