90cc arctic cat 4 stroke (2003)
#1
Hello. I recently picked up a used 2003 quad for my kids. It has been running nice until today. The engine got hot and seized up on them. I was able to let it cool down and free it up. This machine does not have engine oil. No dipstick or drain plug. There is a spot for gear oil, but I don’t think this oil cycles over to the piston? Could it be possible this machine runs without oil to the piston? I hate to keep running it without knowing? I have no manual. Thanks for the help in advance!

I don't know this model at all, but your machine does have engine oil. My guess is it is a two stroke, most use the "Minarelli" engine and have a separate oil tank somewhere, the parts list for a 2 stroke 90cc Arctic Cat shows one, possibly under the front nose plastic. If it has seized you have probably wrecked the cylinder and piston anyway. Fill the oil tank with oil, add some two stroke into the fuel tank, squirt some oil into the carburettor intake when you re-start and keep over oiling until the oil from the tank has had a chance to start pumping into the inlet

Unbelievable. Apparently the previous owner removed the oil tank and was just pre-mixing the fuel. I had no idea and the kids have been running this thing on straight gas. I have freed up the piston with pbblaster and will try adding mixed gas. Not sure if it’s too late or not. I will keep you updated! Thank you very much for the reply!
