I have a eton txl 50cc atv. The electric start doesn't work. Tried new battery didn't work. Checked all electrical plugs and added dielectric grease. I ran power to the starter and it works. There's one inline fuse on the positive terminal at the battery and that is Still good.
How do I check the kill switch? This machine has a relay and not a starter solenoid. I tried a different relay already. I had it running a few times with Kickstart but I need to replace the spring on the Kickstart now.
The "relay" is just a different shape of solenoid, the terms relay and solenoid are interchangeable. Firstly, does the relay click once, when you press the start button? If it does, either the relay is faulty, or the wire from it to starter, or the earth wire from battery to frame, or to engine. If relay doesn't click, could still be relay, but faulty start button or wires to/from start button, or negative wires, are other possibilities. Most rev and go Quads have a lock-out so you can't start it without a brake on. If the switch on the brake doesn't work, neither does the starter. With ignition on, brake on and start button pressed there should be 12v between the blue wire and the green wire at the relay. If there is, you have a faulty relay, if there isn't, find out which wire is dead and work backwards, as this is the circuit that is faulty.
There is no click from the relay at all. Absolutely nothing happens when I press the starter button. I already checked the relay with a known working relay from my other eton. I will check the ignition wiring later today. Thank you for the suggestions
So I have 12v at the blue wire but not the green wire. Green wire goes to brake switch. Can I bypass the brake switch?
i also used my spark tester and im getting spark when brake is on and off. So that tells me the brake switch is working correct? Not sure what to check next.
One of those wires to relay should be pos, t'other neg. If the green is the neg, and is dead, you could just earth it, though this may put the brake light on all the time the ignition is on.
If I put power directly to the starter, it will crank and start. Only runs for a minute then stalls. Not sure if petcock is acting up or what. I can't remove the side cover to lube the kick start spring, why would they use Phillips screws?? They all want to strip. So I need to figure out this electric start problem.
I cant seem to find this exact kill switch. All the others have lights and I'm not sure if I could just plug n play?? Any help is appreciated
If the green is the earth, any "spark" would be a positive feed running from the pos side of the brake light bulb, you need a negative. The kill switch is for killing the spark, The bike runs, so the kill switch can't be faulty. Etons are very "different" to other makes regarding the kill circuit too, standard Chinese ignition switches, kill switches and CDIs won't work on them.
Ok. This model has no lights, basic kill switch/starter button combo. What I'm thinking is I have a bad starter button. I posted a picture of the one I have. Im wondering if the models that have the light switch added into the kill switch block will work and plug in or not.
If the blue wire at the relay is positive with ignition on and start button pressed, (check this with a voltmeter or 12v test lamp), is it still live with start button not pressed? If it isn't, then the start button is working. If it is still "live" then your bike is one of the awkward ones with start button on the negative. I suspect you are trying to go beyond your knowledge of auto electrics, may be best to get someone who does know motorcycle electrics to take a look at it.
