All,

The guys over at Thumper Talks have a software guy that has been working on FREEWARE for the re-mapping of the Cannondale ECU. Another one is working on Cables and the rest of the setup.

Looks like we may all save on much needed support. I would love to have the GP Control map select, but getting $1,300.00 out of the wife would be tough. Hard enough getting Gas money.LOL

Stay tune.

Smitty,

Bad thing about that, if you do take it to the dealer, they'll know. You won't have a "code" reading anymore. I'd expect GP is on this, and already has the lawyers ready. I was also told that you could risk the chance of blowing up the engine, due to not having the fuel calibrated right. I don't know, I'll spend the money to get the real thing. Heck, we spent enough on the quad, why skimp on this. :-)

JCV,

I'm not sure of all the details and of course I'll let someone else be the crash test dummy. My understanding with software issues is as long as they don't use the exact code, which they can't as its compiled. The only thing they are doing is talking to a ECU. I'm not sure if you can patent the communication with an electronic chip. As we all know it's illegal to reverse engineer something, that's why everyone FORWARD engineers them.LOL

There shouldn't be a problem with the codes. If the software works correctly, all they are doing is reading what's there. If you can read you should be able to write. The only way to screw something up is to not know how it all works toghter and change something so it goes critical and fails. This is of course not something for eveyone. All I want is the map selector, I don't have the time or intrest to sit there and make MAPs. I agree with you about the money thing, I might just spend the $300 so I can at least diagnose and change maps when I want.

If Chevy and Ford haven't bothered to sue the aftermarket fuel injection programmes yet, and they have CASH than I doubt GP Controls can.

I see your point and these are my thoughts.

the 3 hundred dollar setup will do everything you need it for. You can adjust idle, and change maps and do the stuff you need to do, you dont need the 1300$ setup. To me 300$ is not bad, same price as a pipe and you can use it forever!
Im getting one

I got the $300.00 software and have used it to remap and look at the diagnostic stuff. It is cool and well worth the money. After remapping, mine from one map to another, I'm really thinking of upgradding to the 3 map control, I think it would be very useful for all types of riders.

Ford does not bother with the software guys becouse the paten ran out a long time ago. but I would believe the cannondale has a little while before there paten runs out,the company that I work for lost 75 million
for reverse engineering software just to be abel to talk to the processor
to find problems in the sub systems.

I'm nor sure about the patent. As they are only reading and writing to a CPU that is manufactured by others. They can patent the Software, but I beleve the variables are the only thing that cam be patent. EI. the fuel injector=injfuel.

Don't even know if they have enough money to fight a patent infringement case.

Everything will be reverse engineered if it has a market and value assoceated with it. The only thing a Co. can do is reduce the price so that is isn't worth the trouble.

Just my thoughts.

I was going to get the $300 setup and the price jumped to $500. If anyone knows where to get it for $300 let us know.

GP Control last time I checked had the basic set-up for map reloads and diagnostics for the $300.

What I would like to get is the MAP select, but it's like $1,300 and you can make your own maps. I don't care to make maps so the basic with the switch is all I would want. I think it should be around $300 or so for tha. They would sell alot more and make more money in the long run.

You can get the software from either R&S or straight from optimum. They started making the $300.00 kit again, they just leave off the LED status lights that come with the $500.00 kit.
