Differences between Speed and Cannibal
#1
Can anyone tell me the difference between a '02 Cannibal and a '02 Speed? I know the Speed comes with a hydraulic clutch, Ohlins shocks and silver plastic, anything else? The reason I'm asking is because I was dead set on the Speed until I saw R&S's sale on Cannibal's ($6299 including Ohlins) and was now wondering if I shouldn't go with a Cannibal and with the difference in price get a set of +2 a-arms and an axle. Are there any other fundamental differences in the two quads? Is the hydraulic clutch worth buying the Speed? I want to slowly get into MX so either quad will be a work in progress. I much prefer the silver of the Speed but if the quads are mechanically the same minus a hydraulic clutch than I'd almost be stupid to spend nearly $1500 more.
Thanks

The Cannibal has the hydraulic clutch also. The speeds rev limiter is set at 11,600 and the Cannibals rev limiter is 10,600. Also the speed has Ohlin shocks on the front and the Cannibal does not. For that price id go with the Cannibal. Thats about what i paid for mine and i love it but ive got the speed map in mine

Yes, the older Cannibals are a deal -
If you're getting the Ohlins and the MC1000 then you're basically getting what I've got, which is only short silver plastic, Tag tapered bars, and hydro clutch from the speed. There are also stock calibration differences, but if you plan on getting an exhaust you'll probably be remapping anyhow.
New Cannibals are not as good a deal. They will be coming with cheaper tires, steel wheels, cheap shocks, etc..
If you can get a Cannibal with the right combo of parts, that's the route I'd suggest. Some Cannibals are basically Speeds without the silver plastic and Tag T2's - Vito got one of these for $5000, hydraulic clutch and all....
If you could find a referb, that would be the best route to go, but I don't think there are any of those left.
Rev limits - actually, I just hacked the calibrations and the MC1000 Cannibal's rev limit is set to 10,800. The other models are 11,500. The Cannibal can be remapped if you like.

Thanks for the replies. I was just checking www.rsperformance.net and happened to see a banner for a sale on Cannibals. They were offering Cannibals for $6299 with Ohlins. I'm not sure what else was included in that price. The rev limit means little to me because a remap would come with a new silencer. My luck the sale will be over by the time I sell the LT and the '03 Cannibal's don't seem that appealing to me.
The reason I asked about the clutch was because Cannondale's website states that the 2002 Cannibal comes with a cable actuated clutch.

Yeah, I got mine for $5,000. New style plastic, Ohlins and the Hydro clutch. For an extra $500, I added the Big Gun,Blaze Mapping, Tag T-2's, the handlebar switch plate and the AC Pro-pegs. I got a hell of a deal! That's why you'll see me push Marcum's on here for parts, he hasn't done me wrong yet.....some people have had other experiences, but I have nothing bad to say about him.
Check with R&S to see if the $6299 Cannibals are the re-furbs. The title will show that it was refurbished. If so, then I'd try to jue them down in price.....maybe $6200 OTD. Either way you look at it though, it's still a good deal. The 03's are going fast, so snag up the 02's if you can.
The only difference I've noticed between 02 and 03, are different location of the fuel filter, different gas tank, different steering stem, all come with hydro clutch and different design of the A-arms. Are they improvements...yeah. Is it worth waiting for, no in my opinion. then you'll lose the Ohlins. THey're switching to a Fox rear shock.
If you don't get rid of your LT in time, then I would wait for a 03 Speed. It will have the same updates, and would be better for you for the same price.
