Back support
#1
OK folks, this may be a little off topic, but I've found that the people who frequent this board are somewhat more helpful, as well as more experienced, than those on some of the other boards. I'm looking for some info here, this time from some of you racers and, um, shall we say "more experienced" people.
I'm certain that some of you deal with back pain on a regular basis, be it from racing, too many crashes, age, or simply genetics. Have you found a good product to mitigate the pain, and make riding somewhat more bearable? I used to wear a Gold Belt when I rode a lot, years ago, but now that I am looking to get into quads, I am concerned for my back - I need to do everything I can to protect it, as I need it for work, as well as picking up the kids and whatnot.
I have done some research, and my current plan is to get a Kevco-Stubbs belt to wear underneath, as well as possibly another "hard" belt that would go over my clothes. I don't have a bad back, per se, but I do have some intermittant pain, want to avoid as much pain and damage as possible.
What do you guys think? What works for you?
Thanks!
Marc

I'm 39 and feel your pain. In order of apperance, IMHO
Good Kedney Belt I use a FOX with medium hard plastic support
Great suspension This will be the most expensive but offers the most help. This will also depend on what Kind of riding you do.
2 asprins before the days ride and two asprin after riding. It helps me anyway.

I am 35 the aspirin is good advice.I do lots of stretching exercises before riding I also visit the chiropractor after a race if there is any pain at all.Lots of riding is the best preventative it seems like if I race every weekend I never get hurt if I take a week or two off that is when something happens.

Well at 38 I'm right there with you guys age wise, I never have any back problems but my knees are killing me after every ride. I've really never had any problems with my knees except when I ride, I guess I need to get to the gym

I'm agreeing with the other old men. At 35 i wear my MSR belt whether I'm trail strolling or jumping in the sand pits. As '27 says, regular riding is the best preventive for back pain. I guess that means i'm really gonna hurt after the next ride

LOL. yea he's always been a pain in my a$$! I thought i had him whipped when i got my 'dale, then he goes and buys one for $1600 less than me!!!
Seems like lots of 'dale riders are 'old guys'. Think it's cause we can afford to take a chance on a hot new machine? or maybe cause we love being one of the few instead of the many? Or maybe we really just need all the performance advantage we can get?!

OK, maybe I'm too young to be looking at a Cannondale! I'm only 26, but I guess you guys are probably right - most people buy what they can afford, and I don't think most teeny-boppers, or probably people my age, can afford a Cannondale. Shoot, I look at my 22 year old brother-in-law who can't even get a $5k loan to buy a motorcycle and it makes me say hmmmm. I guess you just don't realize how much good credit means when you have good credit (or enough money for your credit to not matter!)
The way I see it, I can spend 7k now and get what I want, or spend 6k now and 2k later in order to make it better. Seems to me that 7k now makes more sense...
