Great motto. Can't believe these things are going to be scattered off the east coast of the US in the next ten years. Something to look forward to for sure. Virginia Beach with a burning rig offshore, that's almost as nice as the beaches in Santa Barbara. What a great addition to the landscape, and that oil that washes up; it makes for a great mix with sand. The kids just love it.

 

Gotta drill, can't pay China back by buying oil from the mideast.

 

I'm still waiting to see what caused the explosion that led to the platform failing and the oil spill. There are 10 dead from this disaster and if they can find out what caused it and prevent it in the future that would be good. I think the ones off the East Coast are going to be further off shore than this platform which I believe was only 5 miles. The Continental Shelf goes out much further on the East Coast than the West Coast so they can drill further out. It's a simple matter of how we want to live. If we rely on oil-based derivitives we've got to get oil from somewhere. Pick your poison. It's a lot safer to drill inland than oil rigs off our coasts. Lot easier to clean up too if something goes wrong. Maybe they ought to think about ANWAAR again.

 

CNG......We've got to move away from liquid oil ASAP. Not enough in ANWR to really matter long term. Funny you should mention ANWR....Wife is up there as I type. Top of the world. She got some cool shots of grizzly and lynx.

Even if they drill further offshore on east coast.....if one of those things blows up, it's coming to rest on the beach. It'll just take a few more days to arrive, and cover a much greater area.

Definite problem for us. Regular just touched $3 a gallon here and the much ballyhooded "summer driving season" hasn't even started. The markets will bid it up with the economy coming around too. It'll be $3.50 by August, if not more.

 

Gotta buy it from somebody. Mobil ain't gunna cut you any deals. It's a commodity. Unless you're talking government run drilling operations....which people would have a fit over. Do national drilling platforms make any sense....where the oil is sold at cost to commercial refiners? Would definitely keep the price down. Not likely a good idea, but when it costs $100 to fill your truck each week, it may start to sound attractive. It will all come down to the level of manipulation by Wall Street.

 

Guess I should wait about a month to put the bike on the market.

Hadn't even thought about the switch to "summer" gas and the so called shortages we'll have because of that.

 

Well, at least Mobil is putting some of that money in gold toilets being used here in the US instead of a palace in Doha.

I like liquified natural gas. It burns clean, etc. The thing I don't like is it's explosive factor. I lived in Brighton, MA (part of Boston) for the first 5 years of our marriage and it seemed like every other week there was a story of a manhole cover getting blown into the sky. Oil is certainly more safe but requires more maintenance.

 

Yeah...CNG is so plentiful too. I hear ya on the safety factor. Imagine getting in a head-on with two full loads of NG on impact. The Interstate would be closed for a week while they fill the crater. "They" claim to have it solved with special fuel tanks though. Not sure of the details, but I've heard it provides a ton of torque, similar to the way a diesel burns. I don't know if you'd have high RPMs with lots of HP, or be forced to drive tank like vehicles.
