I enjoyed reading this, thank you both.

Yes, addiction is a horrible thing, and I'm sorry you two had friends who went through what they did. I'm not sure prosecuting drug users is going to help curb addiction, however.

No, I haven't been to a methadone clinic. That would be an experience, though. Sadly I don't have the experience you two have. But right now I still feel that we have a right to put in our bodies what we please, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. Of course I'm not going to argue that opiates, or cocaine have health benefits. But at the least I would like to see drug laws revamped in such a way as to allow more experimentation (scientific) with Hallucinogens. As well as adults to be able to use the drugs that don't really pose any threat.

I have read that Ibogaine has proven to be a very effective, almost cure for Opioid addiction. Ibogaine is legal in Canada, and Mexico, but remains illegal in the United States.

I feel there should be some considerations for drugs that are 100% natural.
If you're talking about marajuana it's been hybridized to be many many times stronger than it used to be. It's no longer 100% natural. If people want to chew coca leaves and eat poppyseeds I don't have any issue with that. But the drugs they make from them are a problem.

Thanks.
I tend to agree with you that prosecuting users may not be the best route. Around here most users who get busted are also charged with other real crimes. Sometimes getting treatment while paying their debt to society works. I dont think the percentage is that high though.
I really think you need to visit a clinic or treatment facility. Just a little tip... Dont pull out a pack of cigs or your car keys .
Im working on a project in a good part of a dumpy city. At lunch time I drive down to the bad part, park in a corner and people watch at a busy market . The things you see there are intensely interesting. I have done this off and on for a long time. In the places I people watch drugs are sort of legal. The police dont bother the small time dealers and I expect to see a deal every time I'm there and more.
Like I said theory and reality.

there's probably some detective reporting to headquarters:

"yeah, that's right... some redneck in a ford truck often parks over there and just watches his drug pushers- make sure you get all his info to do a house raid- he goes by the street name *jgar* and we think he's a king pin around these parts"
