polishing steel?

Anybody ever try polishing steel, then clearcoating or clear powdercoating it? I want to do something different to my A-arms and not have it rust but don't want them chromed.

Take a look at the colors a local podwercoater has they make a chrome like finish which is 60% glossy. I see alot of guys do bumpers for cars with this color.
