Default buying a truck

ows it goin? i am looking at buying a 98 dakota with a 3.9 5 speed 2wheel drive. my question is, are these things reliable? i like to peel out everywhere and i was wondering if i will have to replace anything other than clutches? also how do they respond to mods and such?

the dakotas are a good truck, are you looking at a standard cab or extended version.

If its a dodge its reliable. Don't exactly know about the 6-cylinder 3.9 but my Ram 1500 with the 318 has been great. It has a 3" lift with 34" tires and it will burn them. The motor dosent have that much dont to it either. Just headers, spark plug wires, flowmasters. Thats about it. Im a dodge man anyways.

(Well maybe not BURN them but it will squeel them on the pavement.)

A friend of mine has one, only hers is an auto. Very reliable since she had it, definitely not the fastest truck in the world, but it gets the job done. It's also very comfortable for a midsize truck. They also seem to hold their resale value more than Ranger's or S-10's. How much for the one you're looking at.

the guy wanted 4500 cnd for it but it was a piece. the body was good and straight so i go to take it for a spin around the block and i look at the odometer and its reading 300000! i was like holy s***! so i reverse out of his driveway and notice the clutch is sliping like a mother. i get it out on the road and i take off, look in my rear-view and see a cloud of blue smoke coming out the back. i stoped right there put it in reverse to get back, put it in the driveway and they guy says "that was short. n e thing wrong?" at this point i was a little upset because the ad says "runs like its new". so i started layin into him telling him his truck is a piece and he would never get 4500 for it. so i offered him 500 for it. he got so insulted that he told me that i didnt know what i was talking about and then he told me i was trespassing. so since i took my dads truck, i peeled out in a fit of rage. teach HIM to **** me off

Sh1tty. I hate people that can't be honest about their vehicles condition when trying to sell it.

I've always been a fan of the older mopars and even like the way the new ones look but they don't have a good resale value. My wifes 300c is dropping like a rock. I tried to tell her to buy a low milage used one but she had to have a brand new one. Sounds like you did the right think passing the truck up but you should have just calmly got in you truck and drove off. Spinning your tires only let him know he got under your skin and put you at risk of getting a ticket. I know it's hard sometimes though. Think of it this way. What if you had got in your truck and spun the tires only to have been pulled over by the police that you might not have seen? That really would have sucked and would have made the other guys day. Just try to keep you cool, it pays off in the long run.
