Is $250k a year rich?

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean. I've seen people who are legitimately disabled get jerked around and denied, and I've seen other people who could work but don't who have gotten SSI disability payments for their entire life....
Another thing that bugs me: Oregon provides medical insurance to the poor, but you have to make almost nothing and can't own anything (even a beater old car) in order to qualify. I can see the logic in trying to help the very worst off, but I think that really traps people. If you don't work at all and live on your friend's sofa or under a bridge, you get medical insurance. Get yourself a part time job at a gas station, and it's gone.

I could only hope some of the military would feel the same way and fight on the side of the people.</end quote></div>
I don't know why they wouldn't. Most of their support (non-monetary) comes from the people, not the politicians.

I've always believed that if the government is gonna hand you a check every month, and your physically and mentally able, you should do some kind of work for them.
I think about all the parks that were built after the depression by out of work people. Low pay and hard work, but at one time, we had the best federal park system in the world.
Fine, you want food stamps, well, the cars down at the police station won't wash themselves. All the trash in the city parks? Here's a trash bag.
The problem I see is that there will never be a president elected that has the gonads (or vagina) to make people pull their own weight.

Btw, here's some food for thought.... The average salary is around 45k... How can 5 times your salary not be considered rich? In fact, as this chart ( http://pubdb3.census.gov/macro/03200.../new06_000.htm ) shows, only 2.245 million U.S. households, the top 1.9 percent, had income greater than $250,000 in 2007.
Seems like a strong argument could be made for 250k being considered by most people as rich.

What about the 150 mil Obama raised in September? And guess how much of that is taxable.</end quote></div>
Me?
I don't know.... You think I'm an Obama supporter? I just wondered what people think rich is.
Just because you don't like me doesn't necessarily mean I support Obama, lol.

Not sure how you took it that way.
Just pointing out that he (Obama) thinks 250k is the limit at which he considers rich, and yet the 150 mil he just raised isn't taxable.

I just ASSumed, lol...
Maybe its that the money goes towards something potentially "governmental". If he becomes president, then the money went towards that. I don't think campaign contributions count as income, does it? How much did McCain raise?
