Is $250k a year rich?
Since "rich" is a relative term, I was wonder how you guys see it.
Thanks.
My answer is yes. My reasons are:
1) I know millionaires that never made even close to that amount per year.
2) A few years at that wage and one could take the rest of their life off and live VERY comfortably.
3) That wage could buy a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, 2000 sq ft, 2 car attached garage in nice neighborhood house back in 2005 at the height of the housing bubble and still have enough left over for a benz in the driveway and a garage full of quads.
Thanks.

I don't know if I'd say rich, but at the least very wealthy. I know I'd feel rich if I got 250k a year.
That said, I don't believe in that class war BS. I am no where near 250k, but if Obama gets in and starts taxing "the rich", then that effects the small company I work for and in turn effects me. People never see the big picture.

I think alot of it depends on where you live. My wife and I (with 2 kids) could live comfortably here in Massachusetts on $250k. But, that is mostly because I bought a burnt out heap of ruins, built my own house, and got it all for under $100k. People who have bought the same size house at that time were getting $250k mortgages. It's alot harder on them to get by. I think most people in the suburbs could get by on that but in or near the cities it's ridiculous to buy a house. So, to me, on average, $250k is not "rich". To me, rich implies that you can buy a house that more than fits your needs and afford another place somewhere on a lake. Something like that. When a certain politician (Obama) says, that if you're making over $250k you should help out the "less fortunate", what he really means is he's going to take away your money and give it to people who don't want to work for it. You won't have a choice because government knows best. Helping the less fortunate is a personal choice that each of us must make on his own. If you hadn't figured it out, I'm really against penalizing people for succeeding. We shouldn't reward people who don't want to put effort into life with other people's money.

TLC, I have seen that before too. It's a shame that we, as a nation, don't save like we used to. As I said before, I think alot of it depends on where you live. The biggest expense is housing. I could have been in the bracket with my wife's income to make the kind of money we are talking about. We would have been very well off at this point and would have probably paid off our mortgage and be in the place to start thinking about a place by a lake or up in the woods. Unfortunately, I fell down a set of stairs helping a friend move and hurt a vertabrae in my back. Up here I can easily make $50 an hour doing carpentry. Oh well... We'll see what happens. On my wife's salary we are losing about $10,000 a year going into savings. It's a good thing we did save.

Depends completely where you live!!! That salary would barely pay the rent in New York City or West LA.....
Thing is, once you leave the areas where one can find high paying jobs, the cost of living goes way down, but so do the salaries. So, it is all relative!!! Most places you go, the cost of living is related to the type of salaries that you can make in that area.
So, this just points out how bogus this class warfare thing is! A guy making $250K in NYC, is no better off than a guy making $25K in Redneckville Missouri.....yet Obama wants to tax the guy making 250 and not the guy making 25. It's not fair, plain and simple!!!
