Go Ron Paul Go!
Ron Paul (R) Texas is trying to pass a bill that will allow American farmers to once again grow hemp for hemp related products. Currently the US is losing billions of dollars to Canada and France to import hemp for use is many products ranging from hemp seed milk (which is high in Omega 3s) to interior pieces for new cars from Ford and Chrysler. In spite of popular conception, hemp contains very little THC, the chemical responsible for the "high" related to marijuana. Due to the new green movement, hemp products are getting a 2nd and 3rd look from many companies seeking to maximize profits while making an environmentally safe product.
The most well known uses of hemp include rope, and renewable paper products, both of which were used by the US during WWII. But there is a whole host of new products ranging from cosmetics to food that are being used by many American companies forced to pay high import prices to manufacture their products. America is the only country in the World where you can buy hemp products, but cannot grow the fast growing plant to make the products. "It is sad" Paul said, "that we are allowing our economy to suffer, while a perfectly viable crop can be grown by most every farmer in this country, at a profitable cost, for a virtually endless range of products." Paul hopes his bill gains momentum, although he understands that many far right wing conservatives in his own party may be his biggest opponents.
