Painting polished aluminum parts?
#1
Hey has anyone painted polished aluminum parts black? Specifically nerfs?
I've read that PCing them weakens the aluminum... so I guess I would just need to sand them down, apply some paint thinner (I've read vinegar also works well for etching?) spray some anti-rush metal primer, and then just spray on some black metal paint?
Has anyone done this, or does anyone have any tips or something?
Thanks

I havent done this job specificaly but I can tell you that you want to get parts like nerf bars powder coated otherwise the paint will begin wearing off fairly quick and will look worse than unpainted. Especially a part like a nerf bar as it will surely take on some wear and fast.
Get them powder coated...OR swap them out for some pre-painted black nerfs

But how often do you hear of somebodys nerf bars breaking? You have to remember that nerf bars aren't under that much stress, and the chances of them breaking is very slim. Take me for example, I slid into a tree at about 35-40 mph and bent my nerf bars in and back (look at my pics of my left nerf bar), it even bent the foot peg back.
