wraping the header with header wrap
#23
Last year I bought a header/silencer from Curtis Sparks. It wasn't ceramic coated and the header was "blue-ing". Besides that the heat was nearly unbearable on my right leg. I called them up about the header rusting and they informed me they were now ceramic coating them. They then instructed me to send it in and they would coat it at no cost. When I got it back I could not believe the difference in the heat. No longer could I feel the heat on my leg, even at the dunes and it hasn't changed colors at all. A couple of other interesting points: You can touch the header with your bare hand within 2-3 minutes after shutting the quad off. It really dissipates the heat from the pipe. The other thing is mud and water just don't stick to it. My bike was absolutely covered with mud and the header pipe was spotless. It's like Rain-X on a windshield. All my friends are sending in their headers to have them coated. Try Curtis Sparks, they are doing all my buddies. [661] 872-4343 Good Luck

I'm just getting started in the ATV world but am huge into cars, so about the wrap... i say stay away from it!! yes it does a great job of insulating the pipes and such and lowering underhood temperatures but there is a trade-off. It has a tendancy to hold moisture against the pipes and cause them to rust out faster than normal. I say pay the money for ceramic.. it works just as well and looks a heck of alot better, plus it practicaly eliminates the chance of rust or thermal fatigue in headers and pipes

I had my paul turners ceramic coated and so far everything had been fine. The temp of the pipes was greatly reduced. They cool off alot faster after riding too. As far a durability they offered to recoat if it every cracked or flaked. I had mine done in black with makes them look stock all most. Hopefully giving me a advantage at the base of comp hill next time. Hope I've helped.
