i am putting a440 kit in my 400ex,should i put in heavier rods in also?

It depends. I put a thicker rod on mine but it was only for reliability. You should also think in investing in a heavy duty cam chain. this will save you alot of trouble. Weisco makes a hot rod kit for about $110.
