I have the athena 480 with a HH 14:1 piston I have ran it for a year know and added nos around memorial weekend and never had on bit of trouble!! It has great power for what I have done!!

 

i thought about just buying another cylinder kit and keeping this one for a back up. i'm thinking nmotion 520, but i'll probobly just send this one out for replate. did the athena have the option of a high comp piston? did you buy the kit and then set aside the athena piston and then buy the hammerhead piston? also, what were the clearences?

 

I ran the 10:5 that comes in the athena kit for short time then went with the hh 14:1!!

i meant the differences between the two different pistons and the piston to cylinder clearences along with ring gaps. generally piston manufacturers will ask for clearences based on ring type, plating ................ who makes or produces the athena piston, cp makes the pistons for vcp hammerheads, je makes the pistons for sparks.........

 

Every thing fit about the same the ring gap on the athena piston was pre set so I can't remeber what it was but the hh had it's own gaps since it is just a 2 ring piston insead of 3 like the athena!!

The athena piston I believe is a wiseco but not sure on that, the number is stamped in the top of the piston the same as wiseco does on theres!!

 

any other changes at the time of the piston swap? cam ,porting ?

 

no I did porting little later and had the cam before I did 480!

 

how much would you say that the piston(hh14-1) helped?

 

I would say a lot over the 10:5 that comes in the athena kit!!
