acceleration.....and if hondas are so bad, why do around 70% of the gnc pro field ride em? yea they must suck. and past two years a 450r has won the gnc pro class and what won it before that. o haha it was that "rippn" suzuki 400. man, thats too bad.

Because the Hondas win more often

I wont add fuel to the fire but there are many more things needed to win races than just top speed or even acceleration, and it seems that there pretty good at these also.

Now for you guys running the big bores I have to ask how much of a difference the bore alone has made versus all the other work you have had done. I know most are only going around 4-5% larger in overall cc's and am curious what you think.

Also what have you found as far as the stk first gear (being high etc) with your mods?

i run a 542 big bore kit on my 450r from maxrpms and yes it makes alot of difference...

but then again i mainly use my bike to drag on asphalt ... but i did save my stock swingarm and put a new axle and everything on it so i can do a quick swap if i want to go in the woods with it and ride trails....

it just takes me about 25-30 min to change over....

Well as far as gncc Bill Ballence has won the tittle more times in the past 5 years on a yamaha then any other rider and as far as on the motocross track no one rides yamahas because they dont have a factory team

actually i think hes up to like 7 in a row now. and yea he dominates on the yam in the woods. and i think its about 80% rider and 20% machine in the pro quad class. and everyone switched to honda in the gnc because a it won and b they hope for a factory ride.

I think if you take the top pro's out of the thinking it makes it a lot easier to figure for most amature riders because if you include the absolute best talent in the world, and any kind of large mfg backing (meaning lots of cash) you would be able to make almost anything beyond a 50cc a winner if you have enough time.

True its really mostly talent, and I always remember a race a few years back where Borich won a local or regional harescramble on a most ly stock z400 and was up against some very talented amatures (a, b class) with fully race prepped machines.

Have to remember how the yfz didnt work as well for this guy as it does for balance.

I guess my thinking or point is that for the typical amature trying to gain some knowledge for a buying choice from the various racing results it would be better not to give too much value to the top ranked results of the pro class and their various big dollar supporters. You wont have those resources available to you that make them what they are, and if you look at the more competitive non mfg supported pro's or better yet the A class riders who are mostly much smaller operations with more limited resources you would be getting a much clearer picture of the pros and cons of racing the various models and brands.

Until you can ride and spend money like a pro race team their results serve a better purpose of keeping the mfg's competitive with each other and continuing the need to update their product lines, and thats a real win for us all.

anyways...................the 470 will soon be a 480. it feels a bit tired lately. seems like i just got it dialed in again after the cam swap , but it also has'nt been the same since sparks honed the cylinder from the last head episode.will let you all know what gains i get out of a 10cc jump. should work a little better with this cam.
