Default EBC Dirtracer clutch?

On my project honda 200sx I installed a dirtracer clutch. First time I put it together I could only shift up not down. Pulled it apart and found I didn't have a the clutch adjuster installed correctly. Pulled it apart last night and put it back together correct this time, I hope! What a pain to pull and put back on that cover. I got it to shift back down to neutral. And man does it shift hard! Once back to neutral I'm only able to go to first and back. And it shifts incredibly hard.

Is this common of this brand and type of clutch? Did I install it wrong? In my manual it didn't show a torque spec for tightening down the clutch spring hold down plate. So I just tightened it with in reason regarding the rest of the engine torque specs. Did I mess something up there? I have it moving on its own power this weekend.
