What Size Tubing For Quad Frames?
#1
I was hoping you guys could give me a little more help for my homebrew frame project.
What size and guage is the tubing used on the following quads?
Honda 400EX
Honda TRX250R
Yamaha Banshee
Any Other Performance Oriented Quad
I am trying to get an overall idea of a good size to use when I start my project. I know the 250R had square tubing instead of the round tubing used by the others.
Most quads I have looked at (but not measured) appear to be constructed of approximately 1" tubing, but again, I haven't actually measured one. Dealers get curious and nervous when you start measuring frame dimensions in their store and I don't know anyone personally who has any of the above quads.
The size, or O.D. (outside diameter), should be easy to measure, but I realize the guage of the tubing isn't so easy to get unless there is an exposed end to a length of tubing. Whatever information you can get for me I would very much appreciate.

Go to some of the aftermarket frame makers websites and call or E-Mail them, but instead of saying what you're doing, say your comparing different frames and want all the specs on the metals/size/gauge and then make your decision from there, because if you say you're building your own chassis they'll probably laugh and hang up on you. Good luck. Maybe you should post in the honda forum about the sizes also. Oh yea, Lone Star's site., I would give you more but thats all I know.
