I put a higher compresion piston in my 300ex and now everytime I start it when it is cold or have to hold it in for a couple seconds it screaches right from the starter. I have limited down to the starter.
is there any way to get it to stop making the noise or do they make rebuild kits for starters ??
Is there anything inside the starter where stuff builds up and i could clean it ??
thanx

I would look into maybe cleaning or replacing the brushes in the starter can.

I don't think that changing the piston would cause it to squeak. It must have been weak before that...now the revived compression from the piston is making the engine harder to turn over.

Most automotive parts store also sell a lubricant for brushes ( like a conductive jelly ).... you might want to check into that.

High compression (higher than 11:1) could definitely cause the squeek -- it's the sound the starter makes when it has to work too hard to get the engine to turn over.

If you're running higher than 11:1 comp, I'd pull start the bike when it's cold -- the starter should work fine after that.
