So the Phoenix starter was rebuilt 2 weeks ago by the dealer...said it had corrosion inside it and that it should fix it but if it happens again i should just get a new starter...well it worked great for a weekend...now its back to its old tricks....relay clicking and maybe, sometimes barely turning over half a rev..
So whats the scoop with these starters ? Why would the "corrosion" return to a recently rebuilt starter so soon..the quad was oinly ridden 1 weekend and it werked fine...then next trip out its screwed ?
Also, I have found starters, listed as NEW, priced from 53 to 185 bucks...whats up with that ?...
Any thoughts ?

You can check here on starters. DB Electrical - Polaris Plus you might pull the clutch cover and inspect the starter gears inside. Have had problems on past models with chipped teeth, etc. OPT

OPT, when i pull the starter off it activates into a gear (i hope) not a chain like the chinese quads I have fooled with ?
It looks like the starter is a splined end shaft not a gear so the makes me think it hits a gear .
On thie chinese ones I had to pull the whole side case off to "restring" the chain atop the starter gear..
Thanks for the website I will investigate it fer sure....53 bucks at DB Electric...a price I am willing to pay...185 and I saw 250 !!! is a bit ridiculous when it is available for 53 lotsa places.

Well we pulled the old starter off and installed the new one from DB Electric,....on the bench the new one spun with the Battery charger hooked to it...spun like a tornado !! the old one...slow spin and sometimes wouldn't even spin with power to it....so installed the new one and problem solved for 53 bucks delivered !!
Thanks OPT.

Sometimes you can rebuild starters with just a good cleaning and a brush kit,but a lot of times they won't hold up. We've even sent starters out to generator shops to rebuild, but stopped it when they wouldn't hold up! When the armature has worn or flat spots, even with new brushes and bearings they just won't last. Glad you got a new one! They're cheap enough now that it's not worth messing with rebuilding em. OPT
