Couple Questions Regarding my New Polaris 250

So should I tear apart the engine then? Check ring gap? What would you do?

I would pull the cylinder and remove the piston. You might be able to tell quickly if the piston has broken a skirt,seizure, score marks,etc. If piston shows no visible damage,just pull the rings off,install piston in bottom of cylinder and check clearance between the piston and cylinder with piston skirt at bottom of cylinder .Simple feeler guage will work. If you have .004 clearance or over, then it's time for a bore job. OPT
