Howdy all..... just turned 4000 miles on my 2007 500 X2 this last week on some great trails in NW Nevada..... the elevation was 4000 to 6000 feet. The X2 ran good and I've not had any problems since it was new. I noticed near the end of my dusty trails that the quad has a light miss to it under a slight uphill climb. If I put more of my "thumb in it", it doesn't feel like it misses anymore..... but the bike feels a little sluggish.
Also the pod display is sometimes blank. If I turn the quad off and start again, the display is back. I may be able to ride several miles before the display would blank out again. Current miles traveled are not recorded when the display is blank, but the overall mileage is still there. The bike has the original battery, haven't checked it yet to see if in top shape..... it's never been discharged. I've kept it Tenderized for the last four plus years too. Both glitches started this last NW Nevada adventure.
I rode the Salinas River yesterday, which is almost sea level, and the slight miss was easier to hear and feel when in the sand under a flat constant load. No water driving and no speed demon here, just puttin' between 15 to 25 mph.
Any direction to a solution would be super..... Thanx, NoJoke

 

As far as the miss goes, pull off the boot to the throttle body and look in by the butterfly and you might see some crud in there ... That happened to me once after riding on dusty trails..I cleaned it with a Q tip and throttle plate cleaner by 3M..Just a thought..Make sure you open the butterfly and get inside best you can also..Are you running a K&N air filter?

I had a missing/backfire problem that eventually led to my X2, that I had, stalling completely. Turned out to be the battery in my case. Was around 5.5 years old at that point. Another thing to check is the wires on the sensor on top of the intake. Mine came loose one ride. Jiggled things around and found it wasn't plugged in all the way. Ran fine after we found it. Hope it's something as simple as these items.

 

To add to what's been suggested,pull the front pod and check for any bare wires on the speedo connection wiring and ignition switch area. This is where all the twisting and pulling on the wiring harness is.

 

Howdy all..... thanx for the replies. It was a dead cell in the battery. The activation date on the original battery was September 2006..... can't complain too much about that. I replaced it with a Motocross label that's made by Yuasa, the YIX30-L BS.
The pod display is now fine and no slight miss to the motor....feels strong. It might help that I'm 50 feet above sea level too. I did change the sparkplug for the heck of it, I figure sparkplugs are cheap and they do take a beating. My air filter is stock and everything is clean on the intake side. I'm glad it was quick and painless...... NoJoke

 

Almost 7 years on a battery is about as good as you can get! Got your money's worth for sure! Glad a new one solved the problem for you.
