Default 98 Xplorer 300 ignition coil bad

I have a bad ignition coil and need to replace. Should I use OEM or after market? OEM is $125, after market on ebay is as low as $10. I would appreciate an aftermarket referral if you have one.

How do you know it's bad? Have you had it checked on a coil checker or checked the resistance on it ?

I wasn't getting any spark to the plug. A mechanic neighbor and I pulled it out, manual says it should read .3ohms and it reads 0 on meter.

Yes,it should show .3 ohms resistance from the coil tab to a good ground.Plus make sure the coil wire isn't cut, plus the reading on the coil wire to the tab(cap removed) is 6300 ohms. Coils are the least likely to go out on the electrical system, but can happen.Don't think I replaced more than a couple in 23 years. As far as Ebay you take a chance on a used one,but 10 bucks isn't bad. Same thing if you ordered a new one and the coil wasn't the problem,NO returns from most places on electrical parts.

The coils on ebay are new, just not OEM. I believe it's the wire that's bad not the coil itself. The wire was wedged inbetween the fuel tank and frame. It isn't worn through, but is flattened pretty good about 2 inch below where it goes into the coil. Unfortunately, you can't just replace the wire.

Had that same problem on the early run of 2004 Sportsman 500s that the wires were jammed under the tank between the frame.. But on these coils the wires could be pulled out and a 7mm wire installed. At least that's the way I did on a bunch that the owners were in a hurry for. The bulletin warrantied a replacement coil. On yours, yes it's glued in,but here's a couple things you can look at before you by an off brand coil. NGK Performance Products - Splicers COIL WIRE SPLICER KIT (CWsplicerKIT)

Update:
I purchased a used Polaris Xplorer coil off ebay for $14 and free shipping. Hooked it up and she fired right away.
